Flutist Joanna Bassett will join violist Melissa Matson and harpist Grace Wong to open the program with the lovely Trio Sonata in f minor by Telemann – although not originally written for these particular instruments, its baroque counterpoint and expressive harmonies are a perfect fit in this arrangement
We are very excited to present the upstate New York premiere of Tyvek Wood, an immensely colorful trio by Bruce Broughton, the well-known Hollywood film composer (“Silverado”) – this work glistens from the first note to the last with Broughton’s brilliant use of instrumental colors!
Several duos round out the program: Classical works by CPE Bach (flute and harp) and Francois Devienne (viola and flute) as well as a delightful set of pieces by Danish composer Carl Nielsen – from his music for Helge Rode’s play “Moderen”, written in 1920, we will present three movements for the flute, both solo and paired with the harp and the viola.
The evening concludes with the sparkling F minor “Scherzo” from the trio by Harald Genzmer - written in 1947, it is full of wit and vitality.
