ABOUT FIRST MUSE

First Muse Chamber Music was started by Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra principal violist Melissa Matson in 2007, and was initially supported by the generosity of the Carolyn and Richard Wilson Concert Fund at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester. For twelve seasons (2007-2018) this series of concerts brought together the artistry of the area's finest musicians in a wide variety of chamber music, striving to inspire a diverse audience with performances of repertoire ranging from the familiar to the fresh. Beginning in November 2021, First Muse will be presenting occasional special chamber music performances.

These concerts also provided support to various Social Justice organizations within First Unitarian, with 25% of all ticket revenues being donated directly to these groups whose volunteers work within the community. Our popular post-concert receptions were presented by these social justice task forces.

First Muse performances have always been made possible through the hard work of dedicated volunteers - publicity, set-up, decor, and programs are all the result of donated expertise.
