Suite from Don Quixote - Georg Phillip Telemann

Don Quichotte a Dulcinee - Maurice Ravel

Don Quixote, Op. 35 - Richard Strauss (arr. Varga)

Celebrating the widespread influence of Cervantes' ground-breaking novel (first published in 1605), First Muse has brought together musical interpretations spanning centuries. The adventures of the errant knight Don Quixote in his search for chivalry are portrayed in the intimate songs of Ravel for baritone and piano (written in 1932-33, near the end of Ravel's life) as well as in the 1761 opera written by Telemann (we will present an "orchestral suite" from that work). The fantastic highlight of the concert will be Richard Strauss' Don Quixote - Fantastic Variations on a Theme of Knightly Character - yes, the entire work! - as arranged by cellist Laszlo Varga for six players. Our ambitious troupe including RPO musicians is joined by pianist Timothy Burns for this feat!
